Nobody is going to hire you because you know where to click in Altium or KiCAD but because they think you are competent engineer (or, more likely, can be trained into one - let's be realistic about the skills of fresh grads). But you also pay through the nose for the privilege and probably don't need 50-90% of the extra functionality anyway.Īnd if you are asking because you are a student and are wondering what is better to learn from a future job perspective - it does not matter! Unless you say what exactly you want to do, there is no way to provide a meaningful answer.Īltium can do all that KiCAD can do - and then some. Does one have an advantage over the other? Both are means of transport. However, that's like comparing a bicycle with a submarine. Please look up the past posts, comparisons between the two (and quite opinionated) have been made a lot before.Īnd re Altium having an advantage - well, one would better think it does, given that KiCAD is free (as in beer and freedom) and Altium requires you to shell out about $7k + annual subscription, per seat!
